Cauvery floodgate is opened; George tries to build bridge
The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government on Tuesday took two different steps. On one hand it notified the new Cauvery scheme ignoring the threat of J Jayalalitha. On the other hand, it sent Union Defence Minister George Fernandes to Chennai with Pramod Mahajan, the Prime Minister's former political advisor, to try and defuse the crisis.
Sonia keeps out Pawar from Cong panel on Srikrishna
Leader of the Opposition Sharad Pawar has been excluded from the high-level Congress committee constituted by party president Sonia Gandhi, to study the report of the Srikrishna Commission which went into Mumbai riots of 1992-93. The announcement of the committee was made by party spokesperson, Girija Vyas.
ULFA blasts Rs 40-cr oil depot & says it's just first of a series
The 13,000-kilolitre depot of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) at Thekeraguri in Nagaon district, about 120 kms east of Guwahati, was blown up by suspected ULFA militants early Tuesday morning. The depot was completely destroyed and efforts are still on to put out the fire.
