No compromise to stay in power -- PM
From the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee yesterday made a spirited Independence Day speech that signalled his determination to see that his fragile five-month-old Government should succeed and a veiled warning to his allies that they should not push him too far.
RIB issue to raise over $ 2 billion
The State Bank of India (SBI) is likely to announce the closure of the Resurgent India Bonds (RIBs) on Monday itself, the earliest closing day for the bond issue, if the collection figure cross the targeted $ 2 billion. As on Saturday, the total subscription was in the region of $1.16 billion.
Kashmir support to continue -- Sharif
Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif marked Pakistan's 51st independence anniversary on Friday with a pledge of continued support for separatists fighting India in Kashmir. Speaking in Islamabad, Sharif said that violence in Kashmir "would force India to come to the negotiation table".
