Squabbling among the alliance partners had ensured that the administration could not be run properly, he added.

Except conducting nuclear tests and finding a solution to the Cauvery issue, Prime Minister A B Vajpayee could achieve nothing during his rule, he said.He added that the reason for this was the disunity among the BJP's coalition partners.

The BJP-led front, which won the election by using the `stability' plank, was now facing problems, he said.

In contrast, during the United Front rule at the Centre, though there were 13 parties, there was proper administration .

This was because co-operation was extended by coalition partners, he added. Karunanidhi, who returned to Chennai on Tuesday after a two-day visit to Madurai and Dindigul, said in an interview to a private television company that there was uncertainty inIndian politics.

Regarding extending support to the BJP Government in case of withdrawal of support by the AIADMK, the CM said the DMK could take a stand only after its general council and executive committee had discussed the issue. The CM criticised All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary J Jayalalitha for using the Cauvery issue as a front for creating hurdles in the functioning of the BJP-led Government. Jayalalitha was disappointed as her demand for removal of the DMK government in Tamil Nadu so as to stall the corruption cases against her, had not been acceded to.

In any case, the DMK was still part of the UF and it would be better if all the UF constituents discussed the issue, he added.

Asked if the DMK was against offering support to the BJP-led government, Karunanidhi asserted that the DMK would support the progressive policies and schemes of any government at the Centre. ``We've welcomed the good schemes of the BJP government. For instance, we have supported the 33 per centreservation for women in legislative bodies. I had attended the meeting of chief ministers convened by Vajpayee'', he added.

The CM opined that the BJP government should be allowed to complete its full term in office. It was unacceptable to unseat any government before the completion of its term, and such an act would amount to tarnishing democratic principles, he said.

He refused to comment on the allegation of bribery levelled by Jayalalitha against those close to the prime minister for transferring Enforcement Directorate chief M K Bezbaruah. ``I am watching the situation and cannot comment on it now'', he said.
