St Andrew's pip Rizvi to clinch u-19 title

MUMBAI, Aug 21: St Andrew's, Bandra, beat Rizvi College 6-5 via tie-breaker in the boys' under-19 Multigames hockey final at the Mahindra Stadium.Rizvi equalised through Sham Chand in the 55th minute after St Andrew's had gone ahead with a 51st minute goal by Gavin Alphonso. In the tie-breaker, Alphonso, Marshal Nazareth, Anthony D'Souza and Eldridge Saldanha were on target for Andrew's while Shams Chand, Gurpreet Singh, Shelar Sachin and Konthoujam Premkumar scored for Rizvi.

Aditya prevails

Unseeded Aditya Mahagaonkar beat seventh seed Sandeep Pandirkar 22-20, 14-21, 21-15 to make the men's singles quarter-finals of the Mumbai Suburban District Ranking table tennis tournment at Andheri YMCA today with an 8-21, 21-19, 21-18 win over MS Mohite.

Others making the last-eight stage of the tournment were Nachiket Chawathe, Bijal Desai, Nishant Kulkarni and Nilesh Pandirkar.

RESULTS: Men's singles (PQF): Nachiket Chawathe bt MS Mohite 8-21, 21-19, 21-18; Bijal Desai bt Tarun Gupta 21-15, 10-21, 22-20; Nishant Kulkarni bt Sharad Grover 22-20, 18-21, 21-11; Nilesh Pandirkar bt Zubin Panthaky 15-21, 21-15, 21-18; Aditya Mahagaonkar bt Sandeep Pandirkar 22-20, 14-21, 21-15.

Naval Dockyard beat ONGC 1-0 in the MDFA Harwood League football tournament at the St Xavier's Ground, Parel, today. Patrick George scored the decisive goal in the 47th minute.In other matches, Central Railway (Parel Work Shop) routed All Parsees 4-1 with goals by Pascol Pereira (2), Clive Rodrigues and Manuel D'Souza. All Parsees reduced the margin through Shaheen Mistry.
