Sex racket busted
A highway prostitution racket was busted by Social Defence Wing with the arrest of five women from the Revla Khanpur village of Nazafgarh area on Thursday. Those arrested include Santosh (24), Ombai (22), Mantosh (25), Sunita (20) and Kanoj (20). Police believe the women belonged to the Beria tribe and would solicit travellers while sitting on their cots outside their houses. Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap and arrested the sex-workers after the deal was fixed.

Dacoity bid foiled
The Malviya Nagar police claim to have foiled a dacoity bid with the arrest of seven persons while they were planning to commit a dacoity at the Chopra Petrol Pump in Malviya Nagar. A stolen Maruti car, one country-made revolver with three live cartridges, two knives, one dagger and a hockey stick were removed from their possession.

Three arrested for robbery
The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police claim to have arrested three members of a gang who were involved in at least nine cases of robbery in the Capital. Amarjit Singh, 30, Gurcharan Singh, 36, and Gurmeet Singh, 26, are also alleged to have been involved in a shooting incident at Inderpuri in which a local BJP leader Vijay Pal had a narrow escape.

The police had no clue of Amarjeet's whereabouts since his release from jail in 1996. Amarjeet was suspected to have killed a Maruti car driver in Inderpuri before robbing the vehicle last year. A reward of Rs 30,000 was had been announced for his arrest In May this year, he along with his accomplices robbed a GK-II resident of money and jewellery from his office. Exactly a year earlier, the same group robbed another Maruti car driver at Naraina of his money and valuables before decamping with the car. Next day they robbed a businessman near the south DU campus of Rs 20,000. They carried out similar strikes in Karol Bagh and Dhaula Kuan this year.

Kidnap bid foiled
Two motorcycle-borne youths reportedly attempted to kidnap a child from the Okhla area of south Delhi on Wednesday evening. Some PCR van personnel in the vicinity, however, foiled the attempt. Several bystanders also lent help. The youths have been arrested and further investigations area on.
