Scholar refuses to file case against dacoits

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
BELLARY, August 22: Police were forced to register a suo motu case in a dacoity reported at Allipuram about 10 km from here, after the victims refused to lodge a complaint.

According to SP Prashanth Kumar Thakur, early on Friday morning, five men barged into the house of K Raghavendrachar, a well known Sanskrit scholar and astrologer, by breaking the back door of the house. Raghavendrachar, and his wife, who were awake, requested the dacoits not to hurt them, and take away whatever they liked. The dacoits opened the cupboard and took away jewellery worth around Rs 35,000. However, Raghavendrachar refused to lodge a complaint. He could not take back the stolen items if they were recovered.
