Shortage of teachers hits engg students

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, Aug 23: Lack of adequate staff and poor infrastructure in engineering colleges are adversely affecting students' performance, Datta Rane, Minister for Technical and Higher Education, said today.

He was speaking at a function at Kohinoor Hall, Prabhadevi, to inaugurate the Vivek Institute of Technology. Stressing on the need to promote vocational education, particularly in rural areas, the minister said the government had set up many polytechnic institutions in remote parts of the state, some with World Bank aid.

To improve the quality of education, the government had evaluated the functioning of colleges and introduced teachers' training courses, he said.
