Hurry up with the team: Kalmadi

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, Aug 23: The last has not been heard on the IOA-BCCI tug of war list. While the mighty Board of Control for Cricket in India surrendered meekly after the unexpected ICC slap, the Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi twisted the knife further in, asking the Board to ``hurry up'' with team announcement. The BCCI had made it clear that it would announce the team only on September 4 after the preparatory camp now on in Chennai. The IOA felt that the date is too late and the team could even be disqualified. ``I would like to make it clear that the threat of disqualification looms large,'' Kalmadi said here today. The cricket competition starts on September 9, two days before the Games begin.

``September 4 will be too late. We cannot wait till that date. Formalities such as visas, travel arrangements and blazers for the players will have to be completed in a very short time,'' he said.Kalmadi said that the general consensus within IOA was that only ``the best team'' should be sent becausethe country's honour is at stake, while the BCCI still sticks to the stand that nobody can interfere in the team selection.

``The Malaysian High Commission does not have the names for issuing the visas which means the players could be stranded,'' the IOA president said.
