SURAT, Aug 23: Three notorious criminals, accused of being involved in various house-breaking cases, were sent to different jails of the state under sections of the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA) on the orders of Commissioner of Police Maniram on Saturday.Rajkumar Kallu Shah (22), a resident of Gowalak area of Pandesara, Surendra Pandey (26) from Idsomnagar of Pandesara and Manoj alias Chhotelal Dube (20) were sent to the Vadodara, Junagadh and Rajkot jails respectively.
They were arrested earlier this month by the Pandesara police and had confessed to over a dozen cases of housebreaking in the past one year, the police said, adding that a number of television sets, cycles and other stolen goods had been recovered from their possession.
According to information, after the Pandesara police had completed interrogations of the three accused, PI P P Pradhan prepared Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act papers of all the accused and recommended to the commissioner that they be booked under the Act. The commissioner then issued orders, that facilitated their arrests under Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act.
According to Commissioner Maniram, owing to a spurt in property crimes over the past one year, all those nabbed and found to be involved in successive crimes would be booked under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act.
