Kamble, Dahiya bag bronze

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, Aug 24: Bantamweight Mangesh Kamble and heavyweight Sunil Dahiya won bronze medals as the Indian team returned after a subdued performance in the Ninth Asian Youth Boxing Championship held at Kaohsiung, Taiwan from August 15 to 21.

India, which had fielded eight boxers, could come nowhere near the eight medals they had won at the last Asian meet, as most of them had the misfortune of running into eventual champions or silver medallists, coach Swatantra Raj Singh told PTI.

In the semifinals, Kamble lost to a Filipino on points while Dahiya went down to a Kazakhstan pugilist.

Singh said most of the boxers went out in the last eight stage. "We didn't have any luck of draw this time. Otherwise, things could have been much better."
