MUMBAI, Aug 24: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will from October 1, 1998 supply water on demand to all those who apply for connections. At a press meet today, deputy mayor Gopal Shetty said this decision was taken at a meeting with municipal commissioner Girish Gokhale, head of hydraulic department S N Turkar and other civic officials.
Shetty said buildings which had violated the Free Space Index (FSI) and therefore didn't receive civic water supply will now be given water at twice the rates. The civic body so far charged Rs 45 per 1,000 litres of water from buildings which consumed less that 2 FSI. Now, buildings which have violated FSI will have to pay Rs 90 per 1,000 litres. But those buildings which violate FSI in future won't receive any water. He said those buildings which haven't got occupancy certificates will now receive normal supply of water at 135 litres per head.
