ATR error political, not "clerical"
The controversy surrounding the Action Taken Report (ATR) on the Jain Commission report has taken a new turn with Home Minister L.K. Advani's admission of an ``inadvertent error'' related to the inclusion of M Karunanidhi's name in the ATR's list of suspects. Karunanidhi's name now figures under the sub-heading entitled ``Stand of the SIT on theories beyond LTTE''.

No breakthrough in Indo-US talks
The expected breakthrough in talks between India and the United States over nuclear and related matters did not materialise in the much ballyhooed fourth round which ended on Monday, but the two sides are said to have made sufficient progress to remain engaged in the process.

No parleys on with DMK, claims BJP
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said there was no move to seek the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's support. It further added that it didn't think AIADMK chief Jayalalitha would gravitate towards the Congress.

ECB norms relaxed
The Union finance ministry has permitted external commercial borrowings (ECB) for project related rupee expenditure in all sectors subject to the condition that funds raised be brought into the country immediately. The ministry has raised the limit for the $ 3 million scheme to $ 5 million, relaxed the average maturity profiles of short-term and long-term borrowings and enhanced the ECB eligibility under the exporters/foreign exchange earners scheme.
