Rusedski completes Norman conquest
Britain's Greg Rusedski, playing his second event since spraining his left ankle at Wimbledon, beat Sweden's Magnus Norman 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the Hamlet Cup in New York. Rusedski advanced to a second-round match against Brazil's Fernando Meligeni, a 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-3 winner over France's Guillaume Raoux.

Second spot solace for Sasikiran
India's K Sasikiran finished second in the Hampstead International Grandmaster Chess Tournament after his final round opponent failed to appear for the tie on Monday. International Master Sasikiran (10.5 points), who was awarded one full point when his opponent Miroslav Houska did not show up for the match, finished joint second with Boris Kreiman of the United States.

Mongia, Garg placed fourth
Silver medallist in the previous championships, Ashim Mongia and Pushpendra Garg of India were placed fourth in the opening race of the Enterprise Class World Championships which began on Monday at the Bray Sailing Club, Ireland. India's other pair in the championships, Naresh Yadav and Girdarilal Yadav were placed 13.
