Paes to meet O'Brien in US Open 1st round
India's No 1 Leander Paes will start his US Open men's singles campaign with a first round clash against doubles specialist Alex O'Brien of United States. Paes, who climbed to his career-high ranking of 73 on the ATP computer last week, is drawn for a potential second round meeting with fifth seeded Dutchman Richard Krajicek if he gets past O'Brien, ranked 121 in the world.

Rusedski struggles
Greg Rusedski overcame a broken right shoe during the tiebreaker to beat Brazil's Fernando Meligeni 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) on Wednesday in the Hamlet Cup. David Prinosil beat defending champion Carlos Moya of Spain 6-2, 6-2.
