Vintage stuff from Srikkanth

Duleep Mendis
We've all got into the groove. The strokes are flowing more smoothly with each match as our stiff muscles loosen out. Some of my Indian friends are batting as if they never left competitive cricket at all. Krishnamachari Srikkanth is one of them. His innings of 55 today was vintage stuff.

He just went for the ball. Despite a satisfying career, he still has the hunger for runs. His average was something around 120 today, and the fans would have been happy at the way the match turned out.

Another Indian player who came good was Ashok Malhotra, who won the Man of the Match. He may have lost some of his agility and the speed with which he used to run between the wickets. But as he said, his mind, if not his body, is upto the task.

People have asked us whether we would like to involve our respective cricket boards. We don't want to cause any problems for the boards by disturbing their busy schedules. The Indians, I believe, have already written to ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya and BCCI president Raj Singh Dungarpur.

I must confess that all of us had apprehensions about this series. After all, not many want to watch has-beens in action when you can watch current superstars frequently. But now we are happy that all of us are having so much fun.

The game is what our lives are all about.
