VADODARA, Sept 1: Director General of Police C P Singh, on Monday, inaugurated the first block of 32 houses in Makarpura by unveiling a plaque and handing over keys to allottees belonging to Group 9 of State Reserve Police.The inauguration programme of the houses, constructed by the Gujarat State Police Housing Corporation (GSPHC) at a cost of about Rs 60 lakh, was accompanied by firing of light machine guns by SRP jawans in the backyard of the housing colony on Vadodara-Mumbai Highway.
A total of 244 houses are to be constructed under the scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 4.5 crores.
Speaking on the occasion, Singh said that it was difficult for the policemen to carry out their duties effectively without proper housing facilities for them and their families. He also praised GSPHC director S S Khandawala's for expediting the construction of the houses.
Khandawala said that while construction of the remaining houses would be completed by March next, another 200 houses were also planned to be constructed for Group I employees of the SRP.
SRP Group 9 Commandant L H Nathani said that though the land had been acquired 26 years ago, construction began just a year ago and thanked Khandawala for getting the houses constructed in record time. A cultural programme was also held on the occasion.
