Smart rise in bullion pricesMUMBAI: Silver shot up by Rs 115 per kilo and gold rallied by Rs 60 per ten gram on the bullion market due to steep rise in the international prices.In london, silver prices was quoted higher at $ 4.81/ 4.83 per troy ounce in the morning as against the last close of $ 4.68/4.71 while gold was quoted sharply higher at $ 279.80/280.30 per troy ounce from $ 273.30/273.80.In Hongkong, gold closed remarkably higher at $ 280.40/ 280.90 from the last close of $ 277.80/278.30.
Bajaj Auto two-wheeler sales rise 19%
MUMBAI: Bajaj Auto Ltd has recorded a 19.1 per cent growth in the two-wheeler sales during the first four months of this fiscal. During April-July 1998, the company's scooter sales jumped 17 per cent to 2,78,333 units, as compared with 2,37,932 vehicles sold during the same period last year. According to the company, this is substantially higher than the 11.7 per cent growth recorded by the scooter segment during the same period. During the period, Bajaj'smotorcycle sales jumped 52 per cent to 53,733 units, up from 35,333 motorcycles sold during the same period last year. Sales of Sunny Zip grew 44 per cent during the period to 19,380 units and the Bajaj m80 sales recorded a 11.2 per cent increase to more than 14,000.
Colour-Chem profits move up
MUMBAI: Colour-Chem Limited has posted a net profit of Rs 495.56 lakh for the quarter ended June 1998 as against to Rs 458.89 lakh recorded during the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Net sales were, however, lower at Rs 8,093.98 lakh (Rs 8,180.51 lakh) chiefly due the transfer of its textile dye business to DyStar India Limited, according to a company press release.
Net sales, excluding that of textile dyes, increased by 22 per cent over the corresponding period the previous year, the release said. Other income contributed Rs 418.46 lakh to the overall profits. Interest and taxation were lower at Rs 278.68 lakh and Rs 175 lakh respectively.
