The computerised centre houses specially designed dental treatment chairs with X-ray facility. Every chair contains a rotatory tooth cutting instrument, with attached water coolant spray facility, to reduce the pain and trouble while cutting/removing teeth.

The chair, manufactured by a German firm, costs Rs 18 lakh, and the Government plans to install 65 such chairs in its hospitals across the State.

At present, seven departments of the dental college will have the chairs and about 700 patients will be treated everyday for a nominal sum.

Apart from the patients, the college students can study specialised techniques in dental treatment. The new centre is expected to help in dental science research.

Munde said he was sure the centre would be the best in thefield of dental care, ``not only in India but in the Asian continent.''

Health minister Dr Daulatrao Aher, Medical Education Secretary T C Benjamin, Dean of Maharashtra Health Sciences University Dr Dayanand Dongaokar and Dean of the Government Medical College Dr Chandrakant Taware also spoke on the occasion.
