Megha wins first National singles title

AGENCIES
CHENNAI, Sept 5: Unseeded Shereen Yusuf's winning spree was halted by second seed Maneckji Cooper schoolgirl Megha Vakharia in the U-14 girls singles final, while top seed Parantap Chaturvedi emerged triumphant in the U-14 boys event in the Nutrine national sub-junior hard court tennis championship here today.

While Megha won 6-3 6-4, Parantap doused the challenge of the hardworking Devinder Singh Bhusari (Guj) 6-1 6-4. After the match, Megha said it was her first national title. Shereen was disconsolate, ``I played very badly,'' she said. Top seed Shruti Dhawan of Delhi quelled a spirited challenge from third seed Sonal Phadke (Mah) to annexe the girls U-16 title. Shruti had to wage a grim battle against an opponent who returned hard before winning 7-6(7-2), 6-7(3-7), 6-2 in a match that lasted over 150 minutes.
