John, Yohann, Elisha shine

MUMBAI, Sept 5: There were three hat-tricks registered at various venues in today's Inter-School football championship, sponsored by Colgate Palmolive.

Little John Coutinho set the ball rolling when he booted home the first three goals for Holy Family A (Andheri) who registered the day's tallest score when trouncing Jamnabai Narsee B 7-0 in the under-10 G section. Mathur Tushar (2) and Sarachandra Srikanth (2) were the other scorers for the winners at the Dominic Savio ground (Andheri).

In fact, it was a day to rejoice for Holy Family, as earlier their `B' team had beaten St Xavier's (Andheri) 1-0 in the under-10 E category at the above mentioned venue. George Tyson was responible for the match-winner.

Elisha Barretto's hat-trick helped Canossa Convent (Andheri) to rout St Mary's (Dahisar) 5-1 in the girls `A' under-16 group. Sumila Pereira and Kemberly Menenzes scored the other goals. Niyati Chavan reduced the margin.

Star striker Yohann Pereira, with his hat-trick, piloted St Stanislaus into thefinal of the under-14 I division. Stanislaus beat St Mary's SSC 5-1 at the St Xavier's ground, Parel. Kyle Mascarenhas and Rellin Vaz were the other goal-getters for the Bandra side. S Tayshetye netted the consolation goal for Mary's.

At the St Dominic Savio ground, Andheri - Under-10 E: Holy Family B, Andheri, 1 (George Tyson) bt St Xavier's, Andheri, 0. St Joseph's, Orlem, 2 (V K Reddy, Skeith Braganza) bt St Dominic Savio A 1 (Farhan Khan). Under-10 G: Holy Family A, Andheri, 7 (John Coutinho 3 hat-trick, Mathur Tushar 2, Sarachandra Srikanth 2) bt Jamnabai Narsee B 0. Girls A under-16: Canossa Convent, Andheri, 5 (Elisha Barretto 3 hat-trick, Sumila Pereira, Kemberly Menezes) bt St Mary's, Dahisar, 1 (Niyati Chavan).

At St Xavier's ground, Parel, - Under-14 I semi-finals: St Stanislaus, Bandra, 5 (Yohann Pereira 3 hat-trick, Kyle Mascarenhas, Rellin Vaz) bt St Mary's SSC 1 (S Tayshetye). St Francis D'Assisi, Borivli, 4 (Harish Nair, Abhijeet Shetye, Rakesh Karekar, Sylvest Rodrigues)bt Our Lady, Dadar, 3 (Dungdung Robin, Walsh Elvin, Martis Clarence) via the tie-breaker. Under-16 IV semi-finals: Atomic Energy 1 (Anjul Lakra) bt Holy Cross, Mira Road, 0. Sacred Heart, Santa Cruz, 5 (Jonathan Miranda 2, Pravin D'Souza, Prashant Uchil, Nigel D'Souza) bt St Blaise, Amboli, 4 (William Tocher, Michael Fernandes, Valerio Fernandes) via sudden-death.

At MSSA-Castrol Schools Sports Centre, Azad maidan Girl B under-16: St Anne's A, Fort, 2 (Mahera Shaikh, Gvellyn Goes) drew with St Joseph's, Vikhroli, 2 (Mary Dias, Vanessa Andrade). Girls C under-16: Scholar 0 drew with St Lawrence, Kandivli, 0. St Augustine, Nerul, 1 (Sonia Kapoor) bt St Anne's B, Fort, 0.
