CHENNAI, Sept 7: The CPI today criticised the Congress for not doing proper introspection during its three-day meeting at Pachmarhi as it had not yet reconciled to the arrival of the coalition era in Indian polity. The CPI's national secretary D Raja told a press conference that it looked as if the Congress still aspired to come to power at the Centre on its own and it was yet to reconcile the fact that the country's political situation had entered a new phase of coalition governments.
Saying that the support of the Left parties could not be taken for granted, Raja said the Left parties would meet and evolve a collective strategy in the event of the BJP coalition government falling under its own weight.
The CPI leader said DMK president M Karunanidhi had made it clear that relationship with the Centre was different from relationship with a ruling party. He had been asked whether he thought the DMK would extend its support to the BJP government in the light of the comments that extending support to agovernment at the Centre was different from extending support to a ruling party at the Centre.
BJP had a different ideology, while the DMK had its own. ``Karunanidhi makes it clear that there is no compromise on ideology,'' he said.
Asked what would be the CPI's stand in the event of Congress forming government and AIADMK extending its support, Raja said the Left parties would take decisions based on the emerging political scenario.
To a question whether the DMK's position was creating confusion, Raja said inspite of the setback suffered by the United Front (UF), the socio-political base of the front remained. While the party would strive for a Third Left and democratic front, there could be realignment of political forces. The DMK was a founder member of the UF and one hoped it would continue to remain in it.
He also briefed mediapersons about the five-day CPI national congress here, starting on Sept.14.
Referring to the draft political resolution, which was under discussion and which would beadopted at the party congress, Raja said the resolution would chalk out the party's political and tactical line during the next three years.
