Congress confused, says BJP

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, Sept 7: The Bharatiya Janata Party today described the Congress brainstorming session at Panchmarhi as a ``total failure'' and said that the Panchmarhi Declaration showed the party lacked cohesion and was confused on ideology.

The Congress had lost the capacity to provide stability and had disappointed people even when it got an overwhelming majority, party spokesman KL Sharma said. ``Let the Congress accept the fact that the Vajpayee Government is here to stay. It should shed all illusions that it can destabilise this government.''

Reacting to Sonia Gandhi's statement that her party would be ready to step in if necessary, Sharma advised the Congress to ``rest for a while and get some experience at sitting in the Opposition'' and concentrate on establishing its own organisation and ideological credibility. ``We want to tell the Congress not to take the trouble (to step in), there will be no need as the BJP-led government will complete its full term, he added.

Charging the Congress withplaying casteist politics, he said that it had come out against communalism but not criticised casteism. This showed that the Congress was trying to get closer to Laloo Prasad Yadav.

He said different opinions were expressed at the session on economic reforms and though Narasimha Rao had given some stability through economic reforms these were rejected by Congressmen and he was cornered by his own partymen.

He said the entire session was dominated by defectors who had left the party and rejoined it, namely Arjun Singh, Madhavrao Scindia and Sharad Pawar.
