CJ asks reporters to concentrate on verdicts

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, Sept 7: Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, M B Shah, today remarked that press reporters covering court matters should not report observations and discussions in the court. He said the media should concentrate on final rulings and judgements.

The CJ made this observation while clarifying that his widely reported remark on Maharashtra's quality of administration was limited only to the issue of purchase of MRI scanning machines at JJ Hospital. The remark was not against the entire state administration, he said. The clarification comes in the wake of a query raised by Advocate General C J Sawant, who wanted the CJ to set the record straight. Not only has the media widely reported the comments, but also another division bench had passed a remark against the government by quoting the CJ, said Sawant. Therefore, he added, the CJ needed to clarify the remark.
