AISO holds protest meet
All India Students Organisation (AISO) organised a protest at the university campus and sounded the death bell against the university authorities on irregularities which were allegedly being committed by Gujarat University Pro Vice-Chancellor K S Shastri. The protestors also indulged in slogan shouting against the authorities.

Mourned
Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel has expressed grief over the death of veteran freedom fighter and former Governor of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh K M Chandy who died in a private hospital in Kochi on Monday after a brief illness. "During his governorship in 1983-84, Chandy had shown great interest in the development of Gujarat and it's people," Patel said in his message. Chandy is survived by his wife, eight sons and two daughters.

New trawlers
The Gujarat Fisheries Federation will be asked to produce fiber roaster plastic trawler boats to be used in fishing. An official statement on Monday said the government will seek technical assistance from a European firm Helmetic represented in India by Arvind Mehra who held discussions with fisheries department officials on Monday led by Minister of State for Fisheries Babubhai Bokhiria.

Date extended
The government has extended the last date for applications for revised pensions of the persons who retired before January 1, 1986. Now the last date for application is December 10, 1998. The earlier date was September 10. Pensioners are required to send applications to the offices from which they retired. The State government offices have also been asked to complete the procedure of revised pensions before the date.

BOB awards
Andhra Pradesh Governor Dr C Rangarajan, well known Hindi author Dr Krishna Baldev Vaid, director general of CSIR for Management Dr R A Hashelkar, noted stage actress Sarita Joshi and executive editor of Hindu Malini Parthasarathy were the recipients of this year's Excellence Awards instituted by the Bank of Baroda. The awards which have been instituted by the bank on its foundation day, September 7, were given to those who have excelled in fields of finance, literature, management, music and art and media.

Insurance Week
As part of Insurance Week celebration, the LICI, Ahmedabad divisions organised a blood donation camp on September 4. Senior divisional manager A K Shukla presided over the function.

Workshop
A three-day workshop was organised by State Bank of Saurashtra from September 2 to 4 for the finance executives of SSIs at Naroda Industrial Estate. Deputy general manager of Ahmedabad Zone of the Bank R P Sinha said that the workshop would bring in more transparency in appraisal system of loan proposals.
