AHMEDABAD, Sept 7: The standing committee's decision to abolish roaster-reservation system for one post in the corporation has drawn flak from the BJP and Congress corporators.Leader of the Opposition in the corporation Himmatsinh Patel along with Surendra Baxi said the decision of the standing committee to abolish roaster-reservation was to benefit a section of officers. They said all the key posts in the corporation were single only and the decision they said would hamper the chances of backward class officers. The Congress has said even if the Supreme Court has issued guidelines in this direction, it was the duty of the Central and the State governments to first implement the same for their employees.
They said in this case even before the State or the Central governments could implement the orders, the standing committee approved the proposal forwarded by the administrative wing which was in violation to the corporation earlier ordinance. They said that in 1987 the standing committee had in an ordinance said the corporation would follow the standing committee guidelines for the roaster-reservation. So the new ordinance was contrary to the older one.
It is also said that the BJP corporators hailing from backward community have also expressed displeasure over the standing committee's decision.
