Attempts on for peace in Congo
African leaders gathering to seek an end to civil war in Congo worked yesterday to find a method to get both sides talking about peace. Congo President Laurent Kabila has refused to meet rebels who control a quarter of his vast mineral-rich Central African country. The rebels were to arrive for talks with Kabila, and the presidents of Angola, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Uganda, and Rwanda.

The track record of the safety of India's nuclear establishment is among the best in the world and the Pokhran tests did not violate any international law on nuclear disarmament, chief architect of the country's nuclear programme Rajagopala Chidambaram has said.

Swissair crash: search on for voice recorder
Canadian navy divers have retrieved the flight data recorder from the crash site of Swissair Flight 111, chief investigator Vic Gerden said on Sunday. Gerden said investigators will carry and fly the recorder to an Ottawa laboratory, where a multinational team would decipher the information.
