MUMBAI, September 8: Gavin Oliver's late strike helped St Mary's SSC, Mazagaon, lift the Ahmed Sailor Under-16 Cup after checking St Francis D'Assisi (Borivli) 1-0, in the final of Ahmed Sailor Cup Inter-Schools football championship, sponsored by Colgate-Palmolive, at the Mumbai Schools Sports Association ground, Azad Maidan today.

St Mary's ISC snatched a lucky win over Don Bosco (Matunga), winning 7-6 via the tie-breaker (full-time 1-1) to clinch third spot.

Despite playing an attacking game, D'Assisi failed to convert chances which fell their way. St Mary's forwards relied on counter-attacks as D'Assisi defenders were denied them space to build attacks. St Mary's won a free-kick just outside the box and lanky Gavin Oliver, younger brother of Keenan Oliver (Union Bank of India) blasted to the roof from 25 yards out.

D'Assisi, however, found the net ten minutesfrom time only for the linesman to rule off-side. Ranjit Singh's flag-kick started the move and after a body feint, Rajesh Kharekar laid the ball for Russel Rodrigues who thumped into goal. Referee Jude Fernandes awarded the goal but reversed his decision on the linesman advice.

D'Assisi did not take kindly to the decision and turned out late for the prize distribution. John Alphonso, a former Tata's player, presently coaching D'Assisi expressed his ire against the officiating. In the third place match, Sumit Kejrival put Bosco ahead in the first-half. Midway through the second-half, St Mary ISC's Karan Durani equalised for the Mazagoan team.

WIth the scores deadlocked , the tie-breaker was enforced. For Mary's Shriram Vaidya, Hersh D'Souza, Ralte Lalhalsawha, Nimish Parekh, Conan Barboza and Karan Duranie converted their spot-kicks while Ivor Miranda, Sumit Kejrival, Behzad Khabab, Atul Tupnu and Kevin Fernandes were on target for Bosco.

Fr Agnel's drub CYS

FR Agnel drubbed Colaba Young Stars (CYS) 6-1 in a Gulf Oil WIFA Senior Division football league match at the Cooperage today.

For Agnel, Sebastiao Endro scored a hat-trick while Thomas Terrence, Ean Antao and Harish More scored a goal each. Sofiyan Ansari reduced the margin for Colaba Stars. In another Senior Division match, MS Police got past Dadar XI `B' 3-1.Abdul Fiam scored a brace while Abdul Abid scored the third goal for Policemen. Deepak Diwakalar scored for the losers.

Dadar XI `A' drew with Times of India 1-1 in a Division II match at the Goan Sports Association ground. In a Division I match Companeroes beat Bombay Muslims 1-0. Vikram D'Souza scored the match-winner.
