Fresh trouble for D'Souza

PANAJI: Despite a comfortable victory in today's vote of confidence, the future of the Wilfred D'Souza-led government in Goa continues to remain uncertain. Barely has the Chief Minister emerged victorious in the courtroom battles seeking to disqualify his team from membership of the House when he finds two new fronts opening against him. On one hand is D'Souza's foe-turned-friend-turned-foe, Irrigation Minister Dayanand Narvekar who is publicly sulking against his downgrading in the ministry. The BJP which is providing outside support to the Goa Rajiv Congress government is also showing signs of doing a Jayalalitha on D'Souza since the last weekend.

Govt will stay: Jaya

CHENNAI: All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary J Jayalalitha today declared that there was no threat to the Vajpayee Government as of now and her party's support to the ruling coalition at the Centre continued.

Rail blast

SRI NAGAR: Militants triggered twoblasts on a railway line that hit train services between Jammu and Pathankot, even as security forces foiled their plan to cause a series of explosions in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening. Two bombs went off on the Satwal railway line at Barian, 16 km from here, early today, while patrolling gangmen detected five Improvised Explosive Devices on the Barian-Samba track in Jammu.

Bank strike off

MUMBAI: The All-India strike by bank employees on September 18 has been called off. In a statement issued here today, the Indian Banks Association said the United Forum of Bank Unions had called off the strike following ``conciliatory meetings'' with the regional labour commissioner.

N Korean missile

TOKYO: North Korea will test another missile on Wednesday, the Itar-Tass news agency of Russia reported on Monday, quoting unidentified diplomatic sources. Meanwhile, alarmed by N Korea's missile launch last week, Japan's ruling party has decided to study ways of stopping a regular flow of cash fromreaching the coffers of its reclusive neighbor, a party official said.
