State govt's decision rapped

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Sept 8: Members of Sahiyar, a city-based women's organisation, have rapped the State Government's announcement enabling children of widows, divorcees and deserted women to use their mother's names after their's.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Trupti Shah, Kaplia Bhavsar and Rita Chokshi stated that the announcement was not in tune with the rights of equality for women listed in the Indian Constitution. They claimed that it was unfair to minimise the importance given in Constitution.

They have demanded amendment in the announcement, thereby making a provision allowing children of all women to use their mothers' name.

Sunita Soni, Hemangini Shah and Shital Ghelani, other members, said they stood by the stand of organisations like Aawaj, Astitwa, Kasturba Stree Vikas Gruh and Vikas Vidyalaya.
