CHANDIGARH, Sept 8: The formidable DAV College, Sector 10 swimming team, which includes seasoned Dinesh Dahyia, Naveen Dalal, Tarun Negi and Vijay Yadav, is all set to pool in their talent and splash the Punjab University Swimming Pool during the forthcoming PU Inter-Collge swimming championship to be held from September 14.Dinesh Dahyia, who captured a gold in the 200 butterfly event with a timing of 2:27 in the last edition of the All India Inter University Swimming Meet, along with other swimmers are going through rigorous training scheduled for the past one month at the PU Swimming pool under the watchful eyes of MS Dalal, swimming coach at the PU Campus.
``The boys are in good shape. Their strokes are more powerful than they were a month back. They are also clocking better timings,'' disclosed the coach. The swimmers also sounded optimistic after their training session at the pool. ``We (DAV-10) will lift the title this year also,'' said Dinesh, who apart from spending more than five hours a day at the pool, logs six miles of running in his dairy every day. DAV-10 had bagged the top honours in the men's section in the last two editions of the meet. In the 97-98 edition, they won it a total of 95 points.
Dinesh, a B.A. final year student was the main architect of the team's victory in the last edition. He alone contributed fifteen medals which included ten gold medals (six individual). He also bagged second positions in the five events. This year too he is taking part in 15 events.
Besides Dinesh, his teammate Naveen Dalal, a B Com final year student is participating in seven events. Naveen, got two silver and one bronze medal in the 1997-98 edition. He was also a member of the victorious relay team which got three gold medals.
The team is bolstered by the two newcomers - Tarun Negi and Vijay Yadav. Both of have excelled at the school level and will be making their debut at this level.
In 96-97, DAV College got six gold, five silver and three bronze medals. Dinesh got all the six gold medals while Naveen Dalal took home one silver and three bronze medals.
