NEW DELHI, September 8: `Man of the match' Akash Malhotra (30 and 4 for 16) helped Delhi Blues beat Chand Khanna XI by 81 runs in the opening match of the eighth Shera Pandit memorial tournament for the S P Trophy at Mohan Meakin grounds at Mohan Nagar here today.Asked to bat first, Delhi Blues made 168 in the stipulated 50 overs, thanks to Munish Jolly (35), Malhotra and Satya Prakash 927). Mohd Atiq was the most successful bowler for Chand Khanna XI, taking four for 30. Amit Suman (2 for 27) was the other successful bowler.
In reply, Chand Khanna XI were dismissed for 87 in only 28.2 overs. Naveen Negi was the top-scorer with 22. Only two other batsmen Sunil Joshi (13) and Gautam Gambhir (11) could reach double-figures. Akash Malhotra, Munish Jolly (3 for 22) and Rakesh Raman Jha (2 for 18) were the most impressive bowlers.
The tournament was inaugurated by former India cricketer and coach Madan Lal. Akash Malhotra received his `man of the match' award from Dronacharya Awardee Gurcharan Sngh.
