Leyland passes away

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE  
MUMBAI, September 10: Leyland De Sousa, 76, former hockey correspondent of the Times of India, passed away this morning. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.

Leyland had covered many Olympics and World Cup hockey championships and among his most memorable assignments was the 1972 Munich Games which was marred by the massacre of 11 sportspersons.

Son of Cyriaco, a centre forward of the famous Lusitanians, Leyland was considered an authority on the game.

In the recent past, he had covered many golf tournaments, writing at times three to four copies the same day for various newspapers.

His funeral leaves his residence at The Heritage, for mass and Burial at St Andrews' church, Bandra at 10.00 am.
