Dismiss plea against RBI, SEBI: CRB urges HC
ENS ECONOMIC BUREAU
MUMBAI, SEPT 14: Chairman of the CRB group of companies and main accused in the CRB scam Chain Roop Bhansali, today urged the Bombay High Court to dismiss a petition seeking action against regulatory authorities like Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for their alleged apathy which led to the multi-crore scam.Chief Justice M B Shah and Justice Y S Jahagirdar were hearing a petition filed by Investors' Grievances Forum (IGF) president Kirit Somaiya when Bhansali's counsel Niteen Pradhan prayed that the petition be dismissed. He said a scheme of returning money to investors of CRB Capital Markets Ltd had already been submitted to the Delhi High Court which was hearing a winding up petition filed by RBI against CCML. IGF counsel Janak Dwarkadas and Chandu Mehta opposed Bhansali's contention to dismiss the petition on the ground that the scheme was only concerned with investors of CCML, the parent company. IGF was interested in investors of all the 133 satellitecompanies of the group, the court was told. The matter is adjourned to October 14. Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
