Dhaka, Rao miss medal

KUALA LUMPUR, SEPT 14: After an euphoric day, when India bagged its first gold of the 16th Commonwealth Games, it was disappointment for the contingent on Monday. In the men's pairs rapid fire pistol, Bhanwar Dhaka and Ajab Rao ended fourth like Roopa Unnikrishnan and Kuheli Gangulee had on Sunday in the sports rifle prone for women.

Dhaka and Rao were the best Indian performers of the day, as they tallied 1,121 as against 1,123 by the South Africans Allen McDonald and Andre Van Emmeniss. The gold went o Australians Jason Wakeling and Alan Earle, who totalled 1,133.

In the men's pairs free rifle prone, TC Palangappa and AP Subbiah were in 12th place with 1,160 points as South Africans, Gavin Van Rhyn and Michael Theile took the gold with 1,189 points.

Anuja Rtere and Anjali Vedpathak also finished out of medals in fifth spot in the women's pairs air rifle, which was won by Canadians Sharon Bowes and Christina Ashcroft. The Indians scored 765 to the Canadians' 778. The gold medal for Ashcroft was hersecond medal following her silver in the small bore sport rifle prone, which she got in partnership with Maureen Spinney.

Men (pairs): free rifle prone: 1 South Africa 1,189 (Gavin Van Rhyn 597, Michael Thiele 592); 2 England 1,188 (Philip Scanlan 594, Neil Day 594); 3 Australia 1,178 (Timothy Lowndes 592, Warren Potent 586). 12 India 1,160 (AP Subbiah 578, TC Pallangappa 582).

Rapid fire pistol: 1 Australia 1,138 (Patrick Murray 571, Michaelangelo Giustiniano 567); 2 New Zealand 1,133 (Jason Wakeling 568, Alan Earle 565); 3 South Africa 1,123 (Allan McDonald 573, Andre Van Emmenis 550). 4 India 1,121 (Bhanwar Dhaka 566, Ajab Rao 555).

Women (pairs): air rifle: 1 Canada 778 (Sharon Bowes 391, Christina Ashcroft 387); 2 Australia 774 (Noemi Rostas 388, Belinda Muehlberg 386); 3 England 772 (Louise Minett 387, Rebecca Spicer 385). 5 India 765 (Anuja Tere 388, Anjali Vedpathak 377)

Open: pairs fullbore rifle: 1 Northern Ireland 595 (David Calvert 298 and MartinMillar 297); 2 Canada 593 (James Paton 297 and Alain Marion 296); 3 Wales 590 (David Davies 297 and Christofar Hockley 293).
