PM to induct AIADMK MPs in Cabinet
Decks have been cleared for the inclusion of three AIADMK MPs, Dindigul Sreenivasan, C Gopal and Niraikulathan, in the Union Cabinet during its expansion, likely by the end of this month. Their induction has been reportedly cleared by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in an obvious tactical move to mollify the AIADMK.
Maharashtra clears housing scheme for poor
Despite strong opposition from top bureaucrats, the Maharashtra Cabinet yesterday approved the multicrore Shivshahi Punarvasan Prakalp to provide free houses to two lakh slumdwellers in the metropolis before the year 2000. On their part, senior bureaucrats dubbed it as the most ill-advised decision taken by the alliance government so far.
Govt against banks re-scheduling loans
The Union finance ministry will not allow banks to reschedule loans offered to any project as a means of avoiding fresh accretion of non-performing assets (NPA). Corporates and bankers have been lobbying hard with the Reserve Bank of India seeking dilution of the prudential norms in regard to non-performing assets.
