Gujarat bandh gains support

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, SEPT 16: The proposed Gujarat bandh of September 18 called by non-BJP parties is accruing support from political and labour organisations amid appeals by the ruling BJP to the people `not to get misled'.

GPCC spokesmen Hasmukh Patel and Arvind Sanghvi on Tuesday said PCC chief C D Patel and CLP leader Amarsinh Chaudhary were touring the state to build up momentum in favour of the bandh. They toured Mehsana and Sabarkantha districts on Tuesday while Hasmukh Patel attended an all-party meeting here to give final touches to the bandh programme.

CPM state secretary Subodh Mehta, who chaired the all-party meeting, said the meeting decided to gherao Ashok Bhatt and Haren Pandya in Ahmedabad, Jaspal Singh in Vadodara, Vajubhai Vala in Rajkot, Rajendrasinh Rana and Mahendra Trivedi in Bhavnagar and Hemant Chapatwala in Surat on the day of the bandh.

The meeting also declared that workers of all the Opposition parties would stage a dharna outside the residential premises of the ministers of theKeshubhai Patel government to mark the end of the September 18 Gujarat bandh.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee members, which was convened here on Tuesday, a Rashtriya Janata Party release informed. It claimed that the Gujarat bandh call had started getting tremendous response from the people.

The release said that RJP leaders Vipul Chaudhary and Girish Parmar would observe an one-day fast in protest against the rising prices at Khadia on Wednesday. RJP president Shankersinh Vaghela would break their fast.
