TIRANA, SEPT 16: The Albanian Cabinet tonight announced it would prosecute former president and opposition Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha for his lead role in an attempted coup.The Cabinet said that it considered the Monday riots ``as a coup d'etat''. ``The invasions and pillaging of state institutions...And shots fired on offices of the interior ministry.''
The statement cited action against the Albanian parliament, government building, the constitutional court, the finance ministry, and state radio and television.
``All these riots were organised and led by Sali Berisha and his associates,'' said the statement.
It added that the interior ministry ``will place at the disposal of the prosecutor, all documents and necessary information on the people who organised, carried out and participated in this coup d'etat''.
Three people were killed and 14 injured on Monday in a violent protest in the Capital.
