Rahul daCunha, the director of Going Solo, Six Degrees of Separation and I'm Not Bajirao, is taking on his most ambitious project, ever. He is planning a December production of Jesus Christ Superstar, and the auditions for this Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber musical start now. First staged in 1972, the song and dance extravaganza traces the last seven days of Christ and has all the ingredients of high drama love, revenge, betrayal and conflict.
The music is a pot pourri of several genres -- rock, pop, jazz, gospel and opera and it is the fourth-longest running musical of all time.
Incidentally, in 1970 when JCS was first recorded, Ian Gillan, the lead vocalist of Deep Purple, sang the role of Christ. So, hone up those vocal chords and get ready to hit the right pitch at St Anne's School Hall, Pali Hill on Sunday, September 20, 199810.00 am, onward.
