Narrow win for Sports College

NEW DELHI, September 17: Sports College (Lucknow) and BRC (Danapur) scored narrow wins over their respective opponents in the boys quarterfinal league of All India S. Mohan Hockey Tournament at Shivaji Stadium here today.

Sports College downed CRZ School (Sonepat) 3-2 after leading 2-0 at the interval while the Danapur boys defeated Government School, Kila Raipur, 3-1.

The Lucknow boys took control of the game early and earned a penalty corner in the 15th minute which was converted by Arvind to put the team in front. Shivam added another goal three minutes later.

In the second half, CRZ School reduced the margin through a goal scored by Sandeep Kumar who converted the team's third penalty corner. Sports College went further ahead when Sahid Khan converted a stroke in the 47th minute. Towards the close of the match, however, Sandeep Kumar once again reduced the margin for the Sonepat team by converting a stroke earned by his team.

In the penalty corner competition between the two teams, no goals were scored.

Government School, Kila Raipur took the lead in the 14th minute through Harjit Singh but four minutes later Vijay Topno found the equaliser for the Danapur team. Mansid Bhengra and Vijay Topno (36th and 66th minutes) increased the tally in the second half.

In the girls section, SGNP Singh, Shahbad defeated Government High School, Shastri Nagar (Patna) 5-0 after leading 4-0 at the interval.

Kiran Saini and Surinder Kaur scored two goals while Bajwinder Kaur accounted for the other.
