A Baroda Dairy spokesman attributed this to the fall in milk supply. ``Against 1.78 lakh litres, we have been receiving only 1.35 litres of milk from cooperative societies for the past five days'', he said. ``The damage to roads is also impeded the supply of milk to the city. Normally, we provide 2.5 lakh litres of milk to the city daily''.

He warned that milk supplies may be further affected if the rains continued, as the state of the roads would deteriorate further.

Prices of vegetables, however, were not affected. ``Since vegetables are perishable, we can't store it. So we dispose of them immediately. That is why there is no rise in prices, except in the case of onions, which come from Nashik'', said Shrichandbhai, a wholesale dealer.
