SGPC stance on Sonia's visit to temple flayed

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CHANDIGARH, SEPT 18: The Punjab Congress today took strong exception to the statement of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) chief G S Tohra that he would neither arrange any reception nor offer any `saropa' to Congress president Sonia Gandhi during her visit to the Golden Temple on October 4.

``It is nothing but the narrow-mindedness of Tohra who is trying to divert the public attention from his own misdeeds,'' alleged Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Capt Amrinder Singh.

It has been a normal practice with the SGPC to honour VIPs visiting the temple.

Singh regretted that the Akali Dal-BJP Government in Punjab had made the celebration of 300th year of Khalsa ``a one-party'' affair.
