Wodeyar to wage legal battle

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Mysore, Sept 19: The tussle between the State government and the scion of Mysore Royal family Sri Kantadutt Narasimharaja Wodeyar deepened further with the government denial to provide Golden throne to traditional Pooja held at private durbar. By this the tradition followed since 300 years (1601 AD) has been broken.

According to palace sources, Wodeyar should have offered traditional pooja to Golden throne in his traditional attire between 7 to 10.42 on Friday (September 18) before sitting on the Golden Throne.

``It is not good for society, the government is lone responsible for breaking the tradition,'' said Srikanta Dutta Wodeyar. He said that in the present condition he was not ready to hand over the Golden Howdah. If they (Government) need let them break open the door and take it, I will file criminal or civil case, he added.

Blaming the chief minister and deputy chief minister for the precent problems, the scion of royal family told that he was ready to fight a legal battle and disclosed that hehad discussed renowned advocates F S Nariman, K K Vengopal, Arun Jatla and others and had decided to file a petition in Supreme Court.

`I don't have Army, I am a peace loving man, but, I am also optimistic of winning legal battle,'' he says, adding that he consult senior citizens in old Mysore region.

Replying to a question, he said ``it would have been better if I would have told the palace to foreigners long back and settled abroad, but, I am not a person of that nature.''.

Wodeyar said that he had informed authorities of the security problem involved in removing both the Golden howdah and the Golden throne at a time. But, the government had insisted on a formal requisition after first handing over the Golden howdah and Golden throne to the Government for the September 18 puja.
