Controversies dog Pingalwara -- Destitutes' home

AMRITSAR, Sept 19: It is an extremely unusual spectacle for the alarmed inmates of Pingalwara: shorn of zeal, their caretakers-turned-protesters squatting on the floor outside the destitute home with bag and baggage, occasionally making heated speeches and raising slogans, but for the most part, whiling away their time with endless rounds of card games.These are 30-odd men and womenout of about 400 employeeswho are supporting the seven suspended employees who, while serving the destitute, allegedly gave in to the temptation of money and intercepted funds meant for this home which has done pioneering work in the field of public service over half a century.
