Annan condemns unilateral action on terrorism
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, on Monday spoke of the spectre of nuclear annihilation still looming large over the world, making an oblique reference to the nuclear tests conducted by India and Pakistan on the opening day of the United Nations General Assembly. Opening the general debate on the international situation, Annan said the world was still far from achieving the primary task laid by the founders of the United Nations to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war and international terrorism.

Malaysian police tear gas on Anwar supporters
Malasian riot police fired tear gas and used a water cannon on Monday to disperse hundreds of chanting supporters of detained former deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim, outside the main Kuala Lumpur courthouse. About 1,000 supporters had waited for Anwar to appear in court after his lightning arrest overnight.
