NEW DELHI, SEPT 22: Defence Minister George Fernandes has said that an administrative tribunal for the Armed Forces would be set up soon.
Speaking during the release of the book, `Overcoming Crisis in Leadership: Indian Army', authored by Brig K Kuldip Singh (retd), the Minister stressed the need for leadership at the national and the bureaucratic level.
He also pointed out the need for resolving disputes within the Forces through an administrative tribunal.
Disparity between the needs of the Defence officials and the Ministry's efforts to fulfill them was the highlight of Fernandes' address.
The Minister said that the decision-making authority would have to visit the country's most difficult border posts like the Siachen Glacier to understand the problems faced by soldiers.
Specific seasons to visit the difficult terrain have been underlined. The listed places where the Minister wants his bureaucrats to make trips are, Purvanchal (during the monsoon season), Siachen (preferably during winter),Andaman and Nicobar (any time of the year) and Rajasthan desert.
The Minister also announced the setting up of a National War Museum which would have pre-Independence and post-Independence artillery on display. ``We have to inform our people about our abilities rather than acknowledging what the Britishers had when they ruled us,'' he said.
