Jamnabai claim a quadruple

MUMBAI, September 22: Jamnabai Narsee extended their stranglehold over school handball when they won four of seven titles in the Multi-Games Inter-School division finals held at Chembur English Sports Club here today.

While their boys (u-17) team defeated Sabu Siddique 12-3, the girls (u-17) squad thumped Sion Municipal 10-2. Their u-14 boys and women's teams also qualified for the state championship, to be held at Jalgaon in October.

Among other victors today were Chembur English (u-19 boys), NM Commerce (u-19 girls) and Yashodham (u-14 girls).

All winners would represent Mumbai district in the state tournament.

Chembur English bt Lokmanya Vidya Mandir 18-6. U-17:

VG Vaze,Somaiya triumph

VG Vaze and Somaiya won the U-19 girls and boys titles respectively in the Multi-Games Inter-School Basketball Tournament at Indian Gymkhana here today.

While Vaze comfortably defeated holders Xavier's, Somaiya and Xavier's boys fought out a thriller before the former won 31-29. Vaze and Somaiya will now represent Mumbai in the state tournament at Solapur.

Somaiya 31 (Sachin More 10, Nilesh Jadhav 6, Ralph Gomes 9) bt Xavier's 29 (Siddharth Shukla 8, Sunil Yadav 8) HT 17-17

U-19 girls:

Vaze 30 (Gayatri Manolikar 10, Gauri Abhyankar 8, Jahnavi Ghate 8) bt Xavier's 19 (Loveena Figueiredo 10) HT 14-7
