Defending champion Balwinder Singh surged ahead of the pack at the start of the 12.5 km race but was threatened by Puran Chand in the last 1.5 km. Balwinder, however, pushed the pace when he approached the last 1 km mark, to which Puran had no answer and the five-metre gap widened to 50 metres when he breasted the tape at 45:43. Puran came 10 seconds behind the winner. Daljeet Singh of Govt College, Tanda timed 45:58 to win the third place.

In the women's group, it was a start-to-finish affair for Amarjit, who set a blistering pace to take the steam out of other competitors. She covered the 6.5 km route in 27:13.78 while Amarjit Kaur of GTB Khalsa College, Dasuya took the second spot in 27:21.40.

There was, however, a keen tussle for the third position between Kavita of MCM DAV-36 and Jaswinder of Government College, Sector 42. It was Kavita, lying fourth at the 5 km mark, who put up a gallant show and overtook the tiring Jaswinder in the closing stages of the race to take the third spot in 27:35.68. Jaswinder got the fourth place.

The men's team title went to SGGS Mahilpur with 50 points followed by GGS DAV College, Jalalabad with 72 points. BAM Khalsa College, Garhshankar secured 133 points to grab the third place.

Ramgarhia College for Women, Ludhiana grabbed 21 points to win the women's team championship. Last year's title holders GGS-26 College, Chandigarh were relegated to the fifth spot.

GTB Khalsa Collge for women, Dasuya and SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur with 67 and 79 points took the second and third places respectively.

Meanwhile, local SGGS-26 College lost a medal even without taking part in the PU Inter College cross country race. The team members did not have tokens issued by the organisers of the meet a day before the event. The tokens were to be given at various check points en route the 12.5 km distance.
