St Columba's, APS qualify

NEW DELHI, September 22: St Columba's School and Army Public School (Ridge Road) qualified for the knockout stage of 13th Limca soccer tournament after winning their matches at Modern School in contrasting style today. St Columba's overcame some spirited resistance from The Air Force School to win 3-2 in pool F whil APS had an easy outing against St Vivekanand School whom they drubbd 6-0 in pool E.

St Columba's dominated the proceedings in the initial half. Columba's took the lead in the fourth minute through Moss who beat three defenders before placing the ball into the net. Kartikey increased th lead in th 25th minute when he finished off a move from the right flank. Parveen added another goal in the fifth minute of the second half.

The Air Force School reduced the margin five minutes later when when M Robert's flag-kick landed directly into the goal. Unmesh Upadhyaya made it 2-3 in the 13th minute of the second half. TAFS could have levelled the scores but for some inaccurate shooting by their forwards. Army Public School notched up their scond win in pool E after leading 1-0 at the interval. Ajay Pongtay scored the first goal in the first half and showd more aggression in the latter half to pump in five more goals to record a convincing victory. Sunil Chetri and Vibhu Mehta scored a brace while Narinder Shvir completed the tally. St Vivekanand had no clue to their opponents's tactics and surrendered meekly.

Modern School (Vasant Vihar) recorded their maiden win in pool F, defeating Raisina Bengali School with the help of three second-half goals. After failing to take advantage of their chances in the first half, Modern School adjustd themselvs in pouring rain and the heavy ground conditions. Anuj Gupta gave them the lead in the seventh minute through a 25-yard fre-kick. He scored again 12 minutes later with an angular shot from outside the box.

The third goal came in the last minute of the match when a Raisina Bengali School defender put the ball into his own goal. Former champions GBSSS (Moti Bagh) were held to a goallss draw by St Martin (Delhi Cantonment) in pool G. Both teams have collected four points after two outings.
