Ex-cop held for sexual exploitation

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NAGPUR, Sept 22: A 65-Year-old man was nabbed by the Crime Branch here on charges of sexually exploiting a young married woman after luring her with a job offer and taking her semi-nude photographs.

The old man -- reportedly dismissed from the Police Department in his hay days -- also tried to blackmail the woman, threatening that he would get her photographs published.

Sudhakar Balaji Dangat, the suspect, was picked up today by the Crime Branch sleuths after the victim lodged a complaint against him recently. He would often move around with several aliases like Baba Pande, Darshan Pande and Sudhakar Dagar.

Essentially a loner after his estranged wife and two kids left him, Dangat had engaged the services of a tiffin carrier at his home for daily meals. The victim happens to be the wife of this tiffin carrier.

In fact, Dangat came to know her when he started having his meals at the house of the tiffin carrier in the Sitabuldi area. Quick to notice the poor economic condition of the young couple, he cajoled the woman into taking up a job. Playing Good Samaritan, he then asked the unsuspecting woman to accompany him and took the her to a lodge in Sitabuldi where he allegedly forced her into posing for semi-nude photographs. According to the complaint, Dangat did this twice at Sanskriti Lodge and Navneet Lodge in Sitabuldi.

Later, he started exploiting her sexually with the threats of publishing the photographs. Things came to a head recently when he demanded Rs 30,000 from the victim. Not to take his excesses anymore, the woman approached the Crime Branch and lodged a complaint against Dangat. Inspector Madavi investigated the matter and arrested him today following the probe.
