THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEPT 23: The CPM State secretariat which began its crucial session here yesterday is expected to consider its nominee for the post of new State secretary after the arrival of party general secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet. The CPM general secretary will attend the secretariat on Thursday. The State committee will conclude on Friday.
Apart from the nomination of the new secretary, the business at the secretariat and State committee would be reporting on the deliberations of the last central committee which includes the political resolution to be placed at the party congress to be held in Calcutta.
There are currently two broad opinions in the party. The majority would like strongman V S Achuthanandan to take over and combine in him the post of the LDF convener like Sailen Das Gupta in West Bengal. He holds posts of both Left front convener and party State secretary.
However, there are others who feel that Achuthanandan should keep aloof from the secretaryship in the light of strictures against his organisational weaknesses at the central committee report.
